Communications, media & payment systems: Telecoms
Our expertise in network infrastructure, supporting regulators, commercial operators and consumer groups spans sectors, including telecoms.
We have extensive expertise in cost assessment, modelling, regulatory finance and consumer value. We apply our expertise across the energy, water, transport, financial services and telecom sectors, utilising proven best practice from these areas to inform our work.
The policy approach in telecoms spans issues of relevance to our other sectors. For existing assets and technologies, we need to consider relevant questions around stranding where a service is not required any longer. For new assets technologies, we need to consider a suitable framework for encouraging investment and innovation, given the degree of competition in the sector.
This pace of change is removing boundaries between sectors at the same time. We work on issues in relation to the 'smart grid', which sit in the intersection between energy and telecoms, which we expect will be a continuing theme across regulation.
