CRU publishes its PR6 Draft Determinations for the electricity network companies in Ireland
The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU), Ireland’s independent energy and water regulator has today published its Draft Determinations for the next electricity networks price controls, Price Review Six (PR6) which will run from January 2026 to December 2030. CEPA has been providing technical and economic consultancy support to CRU across all key workstreams, including:
- regulatory framework design;
- cost assessment and benchmarking;
- ongoing efficiency and real price effects;
- cost of capital and financeability;
- customer bill impact analysis; and
- stakeholder engagement and project management.
We are delighted to have had the opportunity to continue working with the CRU on what is an incredibly important price review for Ireland in terms of facilitating decarbonisation ambitions, supporting economic growth, increasing resilience and security of supply, all while protecting customers at a time when households face significant financial pressures.
The PR6 decision proposes to allow access to an initial €14.1bn of funding to provide increased network capacity and support connection of a range of cleaner energy technologies such as microgeneration, electric vehicles and heat pumps by 2030. The proposals also address connecting 4.4 GW of renewable generation to the distribution system and facilitate delivery of 5 GW of offshore wind by 2030.
We look forward to working with the CRU and stakeholders over the summer, as we build on these Draft Determinations and work towards Final Determinations at the end of this year.
