TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) – an organisation established to support the growth of trade in East Africa – has appointed a consortium led by CEPA to develop a Kenyan transport funding policy. Working with the Kenyan Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, CEPA is carrying out a study to:

  • assess expenditure on constructing and maintaining infrastructure assets over the next ten years;
  • identify and prioritise sources of funding to meet that expenditure, including new sources; and
  • advise on any legal and institutional measures needed to support those sources.
Kenya is currently planning an ambitious expenditure programme – including five PPP highways, a new Standard Gauge Railway from Mombasa to Nairobi, and a major expansion of Mombasa port. The objective of the work is to secure the funding required for Kenya to make these investments and underpin future economic growth.
