In 2008, CEPA supported the world’s largest private, family-run philanthropic foundation as it considered a range of options for establishing a cassava crop improvement trust for Africa.
CEPA identified the key benefits and constraints of establishing an outsourced approach to crop genetic improvement grant-making though consultations with key cassava crop scientists and researchers, as well as with similar vehicles that have been set up in the agricultural development and health sectors. Working alongside cassava genetic improvement specialists, CEPA identified the range and mix of governance, strategy development, advocacy and grant delivery functions that the proposed trust would potentially be responsible for.
