The World Bank Group has published CEPA's work on approaches to sustainable irrigation projects, which explored the use of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) to optimise the provision of water resources and irrigation to address issues of agricultural productivity and development.

The objectives of the assignment were to:

(1)   develop a better understanding of the role for the private sector in the provision of irrigation services and subsequent PPP approaches to ensure the sustainability of irrigation projects; and

(2)   evaluate and advise on the types of contractual arrangements that must be inherent to irrigation projects’ designs to ensure their long-term economic and financial viability.
